Pitch Development 2008
Abbeydorney GAA field development 2008 Phase 1 of Abbeydorney GAA field development has been successfully completed with the installation of an all-weather sand carpet playing surface in 2007. Other work completed in 2007 was the sinking of a well, installation of an irrigation system, ducting for floodlights and the provision of an electrical feed to the machinery shed.
Depending on pitch condition it may be opened for limited use around the end of 2008.
Abbeydorney GAA once again wish to thank Finbarr Roche and family for allowing us the use of the field adjacent to the Abbey for training etc.
Currently we are extending the machinery shed and completing turnstiles at pitch entrance. Phase 2 of our development work in 2008 will entail installing floodlights of match standard, the purchase of a generator to power the floodlights and the erection of spectator fencing around the pitch. Hopefully work on the floodlights will commence in April- May 2008.
Abbeydorney GAA has provisional grant approval of € 84,000 towards the floodlights. However estimated cost of floodlighting is €145,000 which leaves us with a shortfall of € 61,000 and consequently we have decided to run another NIGHT AT THE DOGS which will go ahead on 21st June 2008 ( longest day of the year). Once again we will be looking for Race Sponsors, Dog nominators and advertisers in our Advertisement booklet Abbeydorney GAA will be grate full for all financial support and we wish to thank everybody who has supported our development work to date. Further details on the NIGHT AT THE DOGS fundraiser later.
At present we are applying for planning permission for a hurling wall which will be located in the basketball court adjacent to the GAA clubhouse.
Please support our night at the dogs by either sponsoring a race for €400 or advertise your business in our commemerative programme at €100 for full page- €60 for half page- €30 for qtr. page or nominate a dog @ €20 per dog. Please contact 087 6993914 or 087 6771250. Your support is greatly appreciated.
