Joe Walsh Chairman North Kerry Bord na nOg Presents (Todd Nolan Memorial Shield) North Kerry U14 to Abbeydorney Captain Stephen Egan

2008 U14 North Kerry Hurling B Championship Final (Todd Nolan Memorial Shield): Abbeydorney 3-5 Ballyduff 3-4
Venue Abbeydorney Wednesday 20th August.
Abbeydorney and Ballyduff U14 Hurlers put in an excellent show of hurling on Wednesday evening with Abbeydorney getting the advantage with a toss of a coin for home advantage with the local team claiming back to back title for 2 years in a row. Also Abbeydorney had their first Trophy of the year on their new playing surface which added to their win.
It was Ballyduff who were first to score and looked the more balanced side with 3 points in the opening minutes but Abbeydorney rattled back with points from Brendan and Michael OLeary and 2 goals before half time from Michael OLeary Stevie O'Sullivan gave Abbeydorney the adavantage at Half Time up 2-2 to 0-3.
The second half saw Abbeydorney defending well but under severe pressure with Ballyduff pulling off score after score in the closing stages. Abbeydorney made vital changes with O'Leary Brothers swapping for each other and Brendan O'Leary pointing 3 good points from frees and play but it was Abbeydorney who dug deep with hooking and blocking and showing their best display for the year with a team performance with a goal from speedy Stevie O'Sullvan and Ballyduff who struck for 3 goals in the second half.

JP Byrne who scored Abbeydorney's goal in the dying minutes

With time up in extra time O'Dorney were down 2 points and did not deserve to lose after battling right to the end. Abbeydorney rattled back with a mighty effort but the ball was deflected out to the sideline and Abbeydorney moved all players forward and from the sideline cut into the square and JP Byrne was on hand to rattle the ball to Ballyduff net in the dying minutes to deny Ballyduff. This was a good result for Abbeydorney U14 Team as a number of players could not attend on the night and the team had no subs.
Team Panel: Cian McCarthy, Greg Freeman, Stephen Egan (Captain), Alex O'Mahoney, John Shanahan, Mike O'Leary, Stephen O'Sullivan, David Egan, Sean O'Mahoney, Colm McCarthy, Dan McCarthy, JP Byrne.
