Pitch Developments 2010
2010 begins with further developments to our GAA pitch with development of a hurling wall which is 18 meters wide by 5 meters high with 2 side wings 5 meters wide with this project completed by William Costello Kilgublin Abbeydorney this week. Funding for this project comes from the old Abbeydorney Sports Hall Development which allocated partial funding towards this wall ball. We are developing a astro turf 18# 18sq at one side of the wall which will be fenced in, we hope to have a work completed over the next few weeks and we wish to thank the old development committee for funding towards this project.

Vocational Schools match
Causeway Vocational Schools defeated Dromcolloghier 3-14 to 1-6 last week and are in the All-Ireland under 16 Final next Tuesday 2nd February versus Roscrea in Doon at 12.30pm. Let's hope we will have plenty support on the day.

Coaching Course

On Friday night next we will be holding a Hurling Coaching Course in Causeway's new ball wall from 7-8pm. This is being organized by the Bord na nÓg Club in conjunction with Maurice Leahy Kerry Hurling Coach.
All Abbeydorney Hurling coaches are requested to attend.

On Saturday last we held our GAA Social in association with Abbeydorney Ladies football club at Ballroe Heights Hotel with 170 guest attending, Darrach Honan Clare's outstanding player of year minor 2008 and Under 21 in 2009 who was special guest on the night.
Imelda Roche was MC for ladies football club awards went to Under 16 Saidhbh Horgan, Minor Sinead MacKessey, Senior Catherine Collins c/o Mary Egan. The ladies club presented a award to David Moore Senior Trainer.
Tom Healy was MC for the Senior Club and he introduced our special Guest Tom Lawlor NKHB Chairman, Jerome Conway Kerry County Board. Minor Player of Year went to Chris McCarthy, Under 21 Player of Year went to Nigel Roche, Intermediate Player of Year went to Danny McDonagh and Senior Player of Year went to Diarmuid Ryan.
Tom Rice Intermediate player received a merit award.
Club Person of Year went to Patrick Slattery who is on the Development Committee.
Hall of Fame Award went to Raymond Roche.

On Friday night last the Juvenile Club held its AGM, trainers were elected for all teams:

Kerry Supporters Club Awards
On Saturday night last the Kerry Supporters Club held its GAA Social at Ballygarry House Hotel, Brian Leen Captain of Kerry Minor Hurling team was awarded with a fine trophy on the night, also awards were presented to Kerry Minor Trainer Ger McCarthy.

Coaching Hurling wall ball opened

Causeway GAA Club / School opened its wall ball with astro turf on Saturday last with a Coaching course run by Maurice Leahy with a very good turn out from all clubs.

Schools Coaches Mike Leahy presents Club Gear to David Doyle and John Shanahan presents to TJ McElligott

Kerry Hurling Coach Education Workshop
2009 was an excellent year for underage hurling in Kerry and now it is important that we build on this success and continue this improvement.
Kerry Coaching & Games is looking to have a structured and organised Club Coaching and Development Squad system in place, not just for 2010 but also for the future that will benefit Kerry Hurling for years ahead. This initiative is spearheaded by Kerry's GDAs for Hurling Maurice Leahy and John Griffin.
As part of this Kerry Coaching & Games is running a Coach Education Workshop for Club Coaches and Development Squad Coaches on Friday night 22nd January and Saturday 23rd January in Causeway GAA grounds and the recently developed Hurling-Wall Facility. It is important that all club coaches attend these workshops, i.e. U6 to Senior.
Coaches from Munster will carry out these sessions and it will look at different aspects of coaching and the development of our young players.
The workshop will run as follows:

Time: 7pm - 9pm sharp
Target Group: Development Squad Coaches / U11 to U16 Club Coaches / Secondary School teachers

Each practical session will be followed by a class-based discussion, which will take place within the school itself. e.g. 1 hour practical / 1 hour discussion
All Coaches and Club Personnel are welcome to attend all three of these sessions and official opening.

McGrath Cup: Kerry 2-11, IT Tralee 1-10 and S/ Final Kerry 2-12 Waterford 3-5 in Killarney.

Waterford Crystal Cup: Kerry were defeated by University Limerick on a score 3-15 to 1-15 in Tralee.

Bord na nÓg Medal Presentation Night
The Bord na nÓg held their medal presentation night last Friday night with a very good turn of Parents and Children for the quiz also with a few Bart Simpson questions to keep all the children happy.
