Sonny Lawlor R.I.P

Sonny Lawlor R.I.P
The Death took place on Thursdays of last week of our GAA Club President Eugene Sonny Lawlor, Boheroe, Abbeydorney, at the age of 83 years. Known as Sonny to all his friends he was held with the highest esteem throughout the Parish of Abbeydorney and further afield with whom he was President of various organisations, namely Abbeydorney Ploughing Society, Abbeydorney Coursing Club, Abbeydorney Labour Party, and the local GAA Club with whom he was President since 1995 after replacing the late Moss O'Mahoney. Sonny was honoured by Abbeydorney GAA Club back in 2000 when he received the Hall of Fame Award with whom he played Minor and Junior Hurling with the Club as did his brother Terry who passed away in July 2006.
A large turnout at his removal over the weekend justified his popularity with all Clubs he was associated with. Guards of Honour were formed on both days and the cortege was led by a two horse drawn plough to his final journey at Kyrie Eleison Cemetery.

Munster Inter-Divisional Hurling Championship: In The 2008 Munster Inter-Divisional Hurling Championship two teams from Kerry have been entered, Kerry North and Kerry South.
Kerry North will play Carrigdown on Easter Monday at Lerrig, Kilmoyley @ 1pm.

County U12 Hurling League: Abbeydorney suffered a heavy defeat on Friday last vs. Kilmoyley at Lerrig. Kilmoyley had built up a big score before half time with the aid of a strong breeze with Kilmoyley much superior from start to finish. Best Players Colm McCarthy Goalkeeper Steve O' Sullivan, Cian McCarthy.

Munster Minor Hurling Competition: Saturday April12th should be a great day for Kerry hurling when an Inter-Divisional/Development Squad Blitz will be held in the County. This is organinsed by Kerry County Board and Munster Council. Six hurling teams Four Munster counties will partake in the proceedings. Ballyheigue, Causeway, and Kilmoyley will host the games and the Kerry boys are working hard in training and hopes are high that they will do themselves justice and do us proud. Hurling followers throughout the Kingdom will certainly look forward to the occasion.
After Group games, Three Finals will then be held simultaneously. 3.30pm will be the starting time. The victors in each group will play each other in Causeway. The second best team in each group will fight another contest in Ballyheigue and the third team will hurl in Lerrig. Twenty minutes per half will be played in the group matches and the finals each half will be last 25 minutes.
The outright winners will receive an €800. Liston Sports Gear Voucher and vouchers of lesser value will go to second and third placed winning outfits

Coaching Course: former Wexford Hurler George O'Connor will visit Kerry on next Saturday 29th March at Ballyheigue GAA Pitch to give a special Coaching Course. All Team Trainers from Under 10 to Under 14 are welcome to attend.

The Lee Strand Fixture Draws for 2008:
The Lee Strand North Kerry Hurling Board Draws for 2008 were made recently and Abbeydorney were drawn against Kilmoyley in the N.K Senior Hurling Championship which will be played on June 8th.
The Lee Strand N.K Intermediate Championship Draw: Crotta O'Neill's Vs Abbeydorney with Dromakee venue will be played on April 25th.
The 2008 North Kerry Intermediate League and Junior Leagues will commence on the Wednesday the 2nd April.
The N.K Minor Championship will start on Sunday 30th March.

New County Committee Ticket Scheme 2008- 2012 was Launched at last Monday night's meeting; the new ticket scheme for County Tickets was passed and approved; full details and applications will be known after 1st April.
Any enquiries to by email to kerry@gaa.ie. All Clubs and Divisional Boards have options to purchase five tickets in the new scheme. The cost is €3000. payable in 2 payments of €1500, in May 2006 and May 2009.
Clubs Availing of this scheme must confirm acceptance in writing by next Friday 14th March

Clubs Complimentary Tickets to All -Ireland Club Finals:The GAA are to offer four complimentary tickets to every GAA Club in Ireland for the AIB All-Ireland Club Finals @ Croke Park on March 17th.
The tickets are intended for use by Club Members in recognition of voluntary commitment that has sustained the association over the years.
In order to obtain the tickets clubs have been asked to contact their club secretaries who will ensure their distribution to their respective counties.
The Club Finals in Croke Park on St Patrick's Day will feature Portumna vs. Birr in Hurling @ 2pm and Nemo Rangers vs. St Vincent's @ 3.45pm
