County U21 Hurling Championship Semi Final: St Brendans 1-13 Abbeydorney 0-8 Venue John Joe Sullivan Park Ballyheigue on Sunday 30th November
Despite the late start this match was played in ideal conditions in Ballyheigue with the pitch in excellent condition on Sunday afternoon - full credit to Ballyheigue Club Officals. St Brendans were first to score and up 5 point to no score when Darragh O'Connell opened O'Dorneys score with 2 pointed frees with Abbeydorney caught on a number of occasions lack of concentration in the first half with St Brendans punishing them several times for their mistake. St Brendans had Tim Hannafin 0-5 Alan Kelly 0-1, Stephen Leen 0-1 and John Galvin 0-1 while Abbeydorney had Darragh O'Connell 0-4 at half time.
Abbeydorney were awarded free for a foul on Padraig Kelly from the throw in and Darragh O'Connell pointed from 70 yards out.Tim Hanafin's return from injury paid off for St Brendans because he was on form from frees and play adding 3 good points from frees with Abbeydorney heavily dependant on Darragh O'Connells free taking scoring all points for Abbeydorney and an excellent sideline cut but the crucial score came midway through the second half when St Brendans sent a ball accros O'Dorneys goal mouth and after a number of deflections St Brendans managed to score a good goal with the Ardfert side much more balanced all over the field and will play Crotta O'Neills in the final who defeated Lixnaw in Abbeydorney on Sunday morning.

News 23rd November 2008

County U21 Hurling Championship: Abbeydorney 0-8 Kilmoyley 0-5 Venue Abbeydorney Saturday 22nd November.
Played in very misty conditions with Kilmoyley club agreeing to play the match at Abbeydorney. In a very low scoring game with the backs and Midfielders defending very well on both sides, Abbeydorney's first half performance against the breeze keeping Kilmoyley 0-3 apiece at half time paid off for the black and Amber boys with some sterling performances from John B Meehan, and PJ Keane setting up attack after attack in the forward line, but we have to mention James O'Connor with his side step and defending on numerous occasions.
Abbeydorney's hard working partnership of Darragh O'Connell and Padraig Kelly standing out for Abbeydorney with Brian Leen and Joe McCarthy and Simon Egan playing well in the forward line. Abbeydorney scores came from Darragh O'Connell (0-2), and a good point from Padraig Kelly on the run while Kilmoyley's scores Jason Fealy, James Godley, and Adrian Ryle (0-1) each.
Abbeydorney had the aid of a slight breeze in the second half and added 2 points from frees from Darragh O'Connell with Andy McCarthy scoring a good point at the other end. Joe McCarthy and Brian Leen battled hard to get Abbeydorney's next 2 points with Brian O'Leary and Simon Egan working hard. Kilmoyley's Adrian Ryle did well to get his next point despite being well marked, Darragh O'Connell finished with a point from a free for O'Dorney to give a 3 point advantage but Kilmoyley kept attacking in waves and were awarded a penalty in the closing minutes of this match but referee Pat Sheehy Causeway over ruled the penalty decision after warning both sides not to break the penalty line until the penalty was taken with the result being a throw in at the 21 yard line with Abbeydorney defending well in the final few minutes. Abbeydorney will play St Brendan's in the Semi Final possibly next week - keep in touch with Club Officials.
