AIB County Senior Hurling Championship: Causeway 2-14 Abbeydorney 3-9 Venue Austin Stacks Park Sept 1st
Causeways John Mike Dooley and O'Dorneys Kieran Hannafin exchanged points in the opening minutes of play. Barry Sheehan was fouled in the small square and Brian Beano O'Donovan made no mistake planting in the Causeway net after 15 minutes of play. 2 pointed frees from Ian Maunsell and 3 excellent points from play from Kieran Hannafin while Conor Harty scored (0-1), John Mike Dooley (0-1), Cyril Dinnen (0-1) kept Causeway in touch before half time Abbeydorney 1-5 Causeway 0-4.
In the second half Causeway made changes which changed the game around while playing with the aid of a slight breeze with Cyril Dineen moving to full forward and John Joe Canty moving to corner and John Mike Dooley moving to half forward Causeway levelled scores with points from Dooley, Canty and Fergus Carroll to pull ahead when Canty struck for a well taken goal. Points from Cormac Flynn (0-3),Shane Sheehan (0-1), John Mike Dooley (1-2), Abbeydorney were playing catch up after this with Kieran Dineen kicking a good goal in the second half. Abbeydorney's big guns never got going on the night and just when things were going their way stupid frees and the referee awarding a free against O'Dorney when the referee moved the ball for verbal exchange to the ref which Causeway scored a goal and fast puck-outs cost them dearly. Causeway scored 2-10 to Abbeydorneys 2-4 in the second half.
