The following information I found on the Abbeydorney GAA Club taken from a news paper in 1874, 10 years before the Gaelic Athlethic Assosiation was founded in Hayes Hotel in 1884.
HURDLING MATCH
A game of hurdling was played last Sunday between the Causeway and Odorney young men at Aghamore. About 4pm. multitudes from the surrounding parishes - men and women - assembled, and so thronged the fields that the hurdlers almost despaired of being unable to play.
When the ball was first thrown up the Causeway men took it with them, but the Odorney men soon closed in their might and bravely resisted. The judges pronounced the game as well contested, merely allowing the palm to Causeway men. A plea was put in by the men from Odorney that the men from Causeway had ''Changed Hands,'' and the field was not clear of '' black coats''. I am informed that the contest is yet not decided. The Constabulary mustered pretty strongly, but not as strongly as expected - Correspondent.
Please note: This was the way it was spelt and appeared in a News Paper in 1874, (Paper name and date and Month withheld)
