HISTORICAL FACTS  ( ABBEYDORNEY )
The following information I found on the Abbeydorney GAA Club taken from a news paper in 1874, 10 years before the Gaelic Athlethic Assosiation was founded in Hayes Hotel in 1884.

HURDLING MATCH
A game of hurdling was played last Sunday between the Causeway and Odorney young men at Aghamore. About 4pm. multitudes from the surrounding parishes - men and women - assembled, and so thronged the fields that the hurdlers almost despaired of being unable to play.
When the ball was first thrown up the Causeway men took it with them, but the Odorney men soon closed in their might and bravely resisted. The judges pronounced the game as well contested, merely allowing the palm to Causeway men. A plea was put in by the men from Odorney that the men from Causeway had ''Changed Hands,'' and the field was not clear of '' black coats''. I am informed that the contest is yet not decided. The Constabulary mustered pretty strongly, but not as strongly as expected - Correspondent.
Please note: This was the way it was spelt and  appeared in a  News Paper in 1874, (Paper name and date and  Month withheld)

Venue: Banagher (Offaly) 4-12-05
The Abbeydorney Ladies Football Team won their second major football title today at Banagher Co Offaly.Clan Eireann looked stronger in the first 15 minutes. Abbeydorney took over the scoring after this spell with points from Noreen Fealy. Two Goals one after the other killed off the game as a contest. Abbeydorney went into a lead at half time 2-9 to 0-2 .
Outstanding play from Abbeydorney defence  Laura Ross, Norma Shanahan, Brid Slatttery, Laura Mahoney and Jackie Murnane. The scores were hard to come by from teams after half time when Clan Eireann team were dominating in all sectors. Player of ther match Noreen Fealy took over the scoring with a total contribution of 1-5 and gave off a flick pass but the score did not come out of this good move. Abbeydorney were in complete control after this period of play. Clan Eireann tried hard in the second half but could not break the Abbeydorney defence.
After the final whistle, Player of Match award went to Abbeydorney full-forward  Noreen Fealy. It was presented by Geraldine Giles, President of Ladies Football Board.
