Ladies Win All-Ireland Junior Football

Abbeydorney Ladies Football had their first All-Ireland
victory at Birr on Sunday.
Noreen Fealy put Abbeydorney ahead after 30 seconds
with a point and Voureen Quigley struck back for Inniskeen
with a goal after 5 minutes. Abbeydorney replied with
a goal immediately after from Noreen Fealy and
points
from both sides before Voureen Quigley struck the net
again for Inniskeen but Lisa Brick of Abbeydorney goaled
before half time to level the match at 2-4 a piece.
Denise Shanahan went on a solo run at Inniskeen and
got a good point and three points from Noreen Fealy
and Eimer McEilligott left it 2-8 to 2-4 for Abbeydorney.
Abbeydorney took over with Caitriona O'Connor and Breda
Slattery very strong at the Abbeydoney back line and
Deidre O'Mahoney improving after half time and Abbeydorney
had complete control at midfield with the partnership
of Denise Shanahan and Edel O'Connell driving balls
at Inniskeen before Sinead Bunyan and Noreen Fealy
struck for 2 goals.
Abbeydorney were in the driving seat at this stage
and they put on Mary Roche who was injured at training
to a great cheer from Abbeydorney supporters before
the famous hooter sounded.
After the match Breda Slattery was presented with the
Junior Cup and Noreen Fealy was presented with player
of the game.

Bonfires greeted the ladies team on their way back
from Birr at Shannow Bridge and Dillons Cross and a
massive fire at the local GAA club grounds.
Frank Egan introduced Ger Neenan to the Supporters
and Ger paid tribute to all the players and supporters
throughout the year and Churchill club for orgainising
table quiz and ladies club officers and then intoduced
their trainer James Fealy who also thanked all the
players and spoke of the players indivdually and
James let the club captain Breda Slattery do the talking.
Fire crackers lit the skys to great cheers from the
girls and all the supporters and the girls celebrated
in style.

Na Gaeil 2-5, Ballyheigue/Abbeydorney 1-7
Both teams had an excellent game of football last week
at Na Gaeil Pitch, and with a kick of a ball between
both teams. The replay went into extra time again today
at John Joe Sullivan Park, Ballyheigue.
Na Gaeil got a goal at the start of first half and
had 2pts and Ballyheigue/Odorney had a point from Pa
Regan to leave Na Gaeil 1-2 Ballyheigue/Odorney 1pt
at half time. Ballyheigue responded in second half
with points from Tony Kenny (1), Shane Dunne(2) & Daniel
O’Leary (1).
The game went into extra time and Daniel OLeary
took a 45 metre free and deceived the goalie but na
Gaeil came back and got a goal in the end.
Both teams deserve great credit for the excellent football
played on both occasions

Abbeydorney Ladies played Grainne Mhaols in the All-Ireland
Ladies Football Semi Final at Lerrig on Sunday last.
Abbeydorney
were down 7 points with 15 minutes to go and put
in a great come back with points from Noreen Fealy
and well backed up by Laura O’Mahoney & Deirdre
O’Mahoney. A goal by Eimear McElligott
in dying minutes sealed a win for Abbeydorney.
